Dabu is the hindi word for mud print, the inspiration for this fabric. This design has been hand screen printed by skilled artisans in Jaipur and embroidered by hand.
Looking back at the original printing process of Dabu Stripe. The traditional method is called 'Dabu' print, hence the name inspiration to Dabu Stripe. This design was hand block printed with mud which acts as a resist to the dye, the interesting thing about this method is that different shades can be achieved. Dabu stripe was block printed and dyed 2 times, once to get the white sections then dyed and a second mud print to get the mid tones then its dyed again. You then get the base colour (no dye), mid tone shade (dyed once) and then the darker ground colour (dyed twice). It creates such a beautiful effect.
